Built on the Mats. Built to Keep You Training.
For more than 25 years, the mats have been my second home.
I started with a decade of Taekwondo before moving into Grappling and MMA, where I have spent more than 15 years training, learning, and testing myself. Across different disciplines, one lesson has stayed with me: progress depends on consistency—and consistency depends on being able to come back and train again tomorrow.
Anyone who has spent enough time in combat sports knows how quickly that can change. A great sparring session can turn into weeks away from the gym because of an accidental eye poke, an awkward scramble, or an injury that could have been prevented.
I’ve experienced both sides. I’ve been injured, and I’ve also been the training partner who accidentally caused an injury. Those experiences changed the way I thought about training. They made me question how equipment, design, and even training culture could help reduce avoidable injuries without taking away from the intensity that makes combat sports what they are.
That question became SPARS.
Founded in Osaka, Japan, SPARS is built around a simple principle:
FINISH SPARRING SAFELY.
Train hard. Push yourself. But do it in a way that allows both you and your training partners to keep coming back to the mats.
SPARS creates apparel and equipment for people who train in combat sports. Our roots are deeply connected to BJJ, Grappling, and MMA, but our vision extends across the wider martial arts community.
We are not interested in creating products simply to put another logo on them. We want every SPARS product to have a reason to exist—whether that means improving function, comfort, durability, protection, or simply creating apparel that reflects the culture of people who genuinely train.
That approach has also shaped our product development, including collaboration with experienced professionals such as former UFC fighter Motonobu Tezuka. Real experience matters to us because the people who use our products understand the difference between something that merely looks like fight gear and something created by people who know the mats.
As SPARS grows, we will continue developing products across BJJ, Grappling, MMA, and other combat sports while staying true to the idea that started the brand:
Train hard. Respect your partner. Keep training.
Welcome to SPARS.
