The Design Concept

TOO MUCH KANJI PROTECTS YOU LIKE ARMOR

An old Japanese story tells of a man who wrote KANJI (one of "three" Japanese alphabets) all over his body to protect himself from misfortunes. This design was inspired by the story.

IDIOMS WITH 4 LETTERS

In Japan, there is an idiom that consists of four kanji characters. Japanese designer kay has designed six phrases in a calligraphy style that show the meaning of those kanji characters as armor to protect you.

  • Tokokyokushi

    To ward off calamities.

  • Kyokutotsushishin

A parable of preventing calamities from happening.

  • Kinjoteppeki

A metaphor for being very defensive and having no room to be taken advantage of.

  • Kanaianzen

No accidents or illnesses in the family. All family members are in good health.

  • Syukobokusyu

Both the attacker and the defender must fight with wisdom and all possible means.

  • Shinshikeisyu

To do things from start to finish without letting up or cutting corners.
